Maternity

Pregnancy can be really hard on your veins and legs. Not only does the body product significantly more blood during pregnancy but the uterus increases pressure on the venous and lymphatic system as it grows. This puts more pressure on the veins in the legs and can cause swelling and discomfort. This increase in pressure can also cause veins to enlarge permanently resulting in varicose veins especially in women with multiple pregnancies.

Wearing compression stockings and support hose have the immediate benefit of reducing swelling and moving fluid out of the legs for greater comfort. Worn on a normal basis they may even reduce the risk of forming varicose veins later in life.
